Driving Meditation

We had a shared reading of a chapter from Ordinary Magic: Everyday Life as a Spiritual Path, a book edited by John Wellwood. The chapter looks at driving as meditation. Curious? Here's a taste:

In driving, the discipline that is needed is called Moving Meditation. This discipline takes a certain amount of hard work, yet if we can muster the motivation to practice for it for a while, say ten or fifteen minutes per outing, we can be assured of being a happier, safer, more mindful and efficient driver - a Zen Driver.

This led to a lively discussion of snowstorms, the nature of experience, and whether it's possible—or even desirable—to drive without thinking :-)
