The Power of Intention and Practice

This one-day online workshop explains what it takes to establish a daily meditation practice,  tame a wandering mind, and develop the capacity of continuous attention.

The basics of sitting meditation can be explained in a few minutes, but as the saying goes, "Easy to explain, harder to put into practice." This workshop looks at how intention is the key to practice, and practice is the key to reaping the many benefits of meditation. Over the course of this session, we will

  • Clarify terms such as meditation, mindfulness, attention, and awareness
  • Provide a simple model of how the mind works and how meditation influences it
  • Look at common physical, mental, and emotional obstacles, and how to work with them wisely
  • Learn specific skills and techniques that add depth and variety to your meditation

The day will feature talks, discussions, sitting meditation, and moving (standing) meditation.

Other details:

  • There will be an optional silent meditation before the workshop begins, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM (a highly recommended way to deepen your practice in a group, and a wonderful way to enter the workshop)
  • The lunch break will be from noon to 1:30 PM
  • The workshop will wrap up at 4:30 PM
